The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (August 4) expressed sadness on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the people of Hong Kong on the tragic earthquake in Ludian County of Zhaotong City in Yunnan Province that caused heavy casualties. He also expressed deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and others affected by the earthquake.
Mr Leung said that the Secretariat of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee has made initial contact with a number of local relief organisations this morning and learnt that some of them have plans to apply for the Disaster Relief Fund to carry out emergency relief programmes in the affected area of Yunnan. The Committee will, upon receipt of applications, expeditiously process the funding proposals so as to enable the provision of early relief to the needy.
