Young choreographer Blue Ka-wing to stage "The Left Hander" in September
************************************************************

Promising Hong Kong choreographer Blue Ka-wing (Rainbow Lam) will stage her first full-length work, entitled "The Left Hander", in September.

"The Left Hander" stems from Blue's short piece of the same title. Ever since she moved out from her family home, living alone has given her greater strength for creativity. But she has also realised that a left-hander faces many difficulties in daily life, such as finding it hard to use a can opener. Blue thinks she was born to be a left-hander, and that latent energy flows inside her body, in the nervous system and in the mode of thinking. This belated realisation spurs her on to seek the exclusive dance language of left-handers.

Choreographed by Blue, the production is performed by Natalie Mak, Sudhee Liao, Liu Heung-man, Henry Shum and Jade Yung.

Blue Ka-wing was born in Hong Kong and started her training in dance at the age of 16. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in contemporary dance and choreography from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2010. Her choreographic work has included "Diving for Needles", "Auto", "Manual", "Little Bit Bit" and "Hollow Stone". She is currently a freelance artist in Hong Kong, collaborating with many local dance groups and choreographers.

"The Left Hander" is one of the programmes in the "New Force in Motion" series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 8pm on September 12 and 13 (Friday and Saturday) and 3pm on September 13 and 14 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Black Box Theatre of Kwai Tsing Theatre. Tickets priced at $160 (free seating) are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 10 per cent is offered for the "New Force in Motion" series and group booking packages. A meet-the-artists session will be held after the first performance.

The "New Force in Motion" series also includes "beautiful decay" by Cherry Leung (November 11 to 14).
