Music training courses for beginners invite applications (with photos)
*********************************************************

Learning to play a musical instrument not only helps young people develop their musical talent, but also enhances their interest in the arts.

The Instrumental Music Training Scheme, organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is now recruiting beginners for 2014-15. The deadline for applications is August 11.

The two-year training scheme will begin in November. It provides training in almost 30 Chinese and Western musical instruments including violin, viola, cello, harp, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trombone, dizi, erhu, pipa, zhongruan, sheng and others, as well as supplementary training in musicianship and theory. Applications from young people aged 6 to 14 with no instrumental experience are welcomed.

Weekly one-hour group lessons will be conducted in Cantonese at the Music Office's music centres in Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Mong Kok, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.

Annual tuition fees of $1,467 for the first year and $1,793 for the second year are to be paid in four instalments. Applicants will be required to attend an admission test comprising a music aptitude test and an interview.

Pamphlets and application forms are now available at all music centres of the Music Office. They can also be downloaded from the website www.lcsd.gov.hk/musicoffice. Completed applications can be submitted by post, in person or through the online application system.

For enquiries, please call the Music Office's music centres at 2802 0657 (Hong Kong), 2796 2893 (Kwun Tong), 2399 2200 (Mong Kok), 2158 6462 (Sha Tin) and 2417 6429 (Tsuen Wan).
