Judicial appointment

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (July 31) announced the appointment of Mr Anderson Chow Ka-ming, SC, as Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court. The appointment will take effect from August 1, 2014.

     The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

     Mr Chow, SC, who now holds office as Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court, will cease to be Recorder with effect from the same date (August 1).

     The biographical note of Mr Chow, SC, is as follows:

     Mr Anderson Chow Ka-ming, SC was born in 1964 in Hong Kong. He obtained LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1986 and 1987 respectively. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1987 and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1995. He was appointed as Senior Counsel in 2004. He has been in private practice since 1988. He served as Deputy Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court for a period in 2009 and has been appointed as Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 2010.
