LCSD to hold three screenings of operas by Richard Strauss
**********************************************************

Richard Strauss occupies a prominent niche in the world of operas. He was regarded as a trailblazer for his innovative composition techniques and setting of libretti and stories to music.

The editor (Music Section) of local classical music magazine "Hi Fi Review", Savio Lau, will host three screenings entitled "Richard Strauss's Operas in Hi-Vi" to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the German composer. Using top-of-the-line equipment that offers high-definition display and stereo effects, Lau will show three video productions of works by Richard Strauss. Conducted in Cantonese, each screening will open with a brief introduction by Lau and finish with his discussion with music critics Thomas Wong, Chui Yuen and Dennis Wu. Each session promises to be a magnificent audio-visual experience and audiences will be able to learn more about the composer and his works. To be presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the screenings will take place in the Lecture Hall of the Hong Kong Science Museum. Details are as follows:

September 29 (Monday), 7.30pm
"Salome" (directed by Luc Bondy and conducted by Christoph von Dohnányi)

September 30 (Tuesday), 7.30pm

October 1 (Wednesday), 3pm

The screenings will be in German with English subtitles. Tickets priced at $120 for each screening are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
