Update on cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter cases in Caritas Medical Centre

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre gave the following update today (July 25) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) carriers in a male Medicine and Geriatric Ward:

     In accordance with prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed contact tracing and three more patients (aged 86 to 92) have been confirmed as carriers of MDRA today but without clinical symptoms. The three patients are under medical surveillance and isolation. Among them, two are in stable condition. The remaining one is in serious condition due to underlying illness.

     The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
