The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, visited Kwun Tong today (July 18) to learn more about the Kwun Tong Town Centre Project and the provision of mental health services in the district. He also met with District Councillors to listen to their views and concerns on various local matters.
Accompanied by the Chairman of Kwun Tong District Council, Mr Chan Chung-bun, and the District Officer (Kwun Tong), Mr Gilford Law, Dr Ko toured the Urban Renewal Authority's (URA) Kwun Tong Resource Centre, where he was briefed by the Director of the URA Kwun Tong Project, Dr Ernest Lee, on the latest developments of the Kwun Tong Town Centre Project. They also exchanged views on the planned provision of medical and environmental hygiene services in the town centre following its redevelopment.
Dr Ko then proceeded to the Medical Health Association of Hong Kong, a non-profit-making social service organisation dedicated to promoting mental health and enhancing public awareness of various issues related to mental health. Dr Ko was pleased to learn that the Association has been providing comprehensive rehabilitation services for mentally handicapped people and people recovering from mental illness, including residential services, day-time training, vocational rehabilitation training and community support services. Dr Ko also expressed his gratitude to the Association for its efforts in promoting mental health services in areas such as medicine and health, education, social communication, leisure, entertainment and sports, so as to meet the needs of mental patients and mentally handicapped persons.
Before concluding his visit, Dr Ko met with district councillors and exchanged views on how to further improve the districtˇ¦s hospital and clinic services, as well as on the food safety and environmental hygiene situation.
