************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the University Grants Committee:

The Research Grants Council (RGC) will present its second public lecture of this year, with the theme of "Sustainable Built Environment", on July 26 (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Science Museum.

The RGC has invited the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Geography and Resource Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Ng Mee-kam, and Professor Chen Guang-hao of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to share their research findings and knowledge with the public. Details are as follows:

Time: 2.30pm to 4.30pm
Venue: Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Science Museum
Language: Cantonese
Free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

Professor Ng will give a talk entitled "Pathways towards a Sustainable Built Environment". The talk will discuss nature- and people-centred development, which calls for a fundamental re-conceptualisation of the relationships between economic growth and long-term development.

Professor Chen will deliver a lecture entitled "Urine holds the key to the cities of the future", which aims to introduce the public to the significance, necessity and practicality of urine separation, and the research advances that have been made in this area. It will also discuss the impact of urine separation on our daily lives and city development.

Since 2009, leading scholars in their respective fields have been invited to deliver public lectures organised by the RGC. These lectures aim at arousing the public's interest in local research development.
