Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 742 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 68 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island on July 15.
 
     The operation concluded at 7pm that day and a total of 327 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.  
 
     A total of 546 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 196 for other traffic offences.  
 
     Four pedestrians and 106 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  
 
     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,494 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to June this year, of which 472 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 44.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
