Thirty-five outstanding contestants of the "Hang Seng Bank ¡V Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition 2014" were selected as fight crime ambassadors.

They will visit various Force formations to enhance their understanding of police work in a bid to assisting in fighting crime. In addition, 21 of them will be arranged to take part in an exchange programme in Australia this August.

The ambassadors received awards and scholarships from the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Ma Wai-luk, and the Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank, Ms Rose Lee, today (July 17) at a prize presentation ceremony at Police Headquarters.

Commending their distinguished performance, Mr Ma said at the ceremony that the winners acquired a better understanding of youth crimes and heightened their awareness of fighting crime by participating in the competition, thus contributing to make Hong Kong one of the safest cities in the world.

Mr Ma encouraged the 21 delegates to take the opportunity to share their experience in fighting crime and participate in cultural exchanges with local youths. He also wished them a fruitful visit to Australia.

Ms Lee said that Hang Seng Bank attached great importance to education and youth development with a view to cultivating a strong sense of social responsibility among young people.

She added that the competition promoted positive values among young people in Hong Kong and encouraged them to spread anti-crime messages among their friends.

Introduced in 1975, the biennial competition is organised by the Police and has been supported by Hang Seng Bank since 1994.

This year's theme is ¡¥Fight Crime Together¡¦, conveying the key messages of combating ¡¥Youth Drugs¡¦, ¡¥Theft¡¦ and ¡¥Violence¡¦, which attracted a record high of nearly 290 000 participants.

The winners of the five categories, namely the Primary Group, Junior Group, Senior Group, Post-Secondary Group, and the non-governmental organisation Group (including youth service groups and uniformed groups receiving subvention from the Home Affairs Bureau) had gone through three phases of challenges comprising a combination of web game, quiz, report on newspaper article, essay writing, project presentation on youth crimes, aptitude test and interview.
