Government to pay rent for public rental housing tenants in August
************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

Public rental housing (PRH) tenants (including interim housing licencees) of the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) will not be required to pay all or part of the rent/licence fees for August 2014.

The Financial Secretary announced in the Budget in February this year a series of one-off relief measures, including paying one month's rent for PRH tenants. Funding for the rent payment was approved by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council this month. About 730 000 HA tenants will benefit from the one month's rent payment by the Government.

"The Government will pay the rent in full for tenants and licencees of the HA paying normal rent. As for tenants and licencees paying additional rent, the Government will pay on their behalf the net rent for one month and they are required to pay the additional rent," a spokesman for the HA said today (July 16).

The HA will notify all the tenants and licencees of this arrangement.
