The spokesperson for Shatin Hospital made the following announcement today (July 15):
Five patients (aged 27 to 63) and one staff member in a female psychiatric ward have presented with upper respiratory symptoms since July 3. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients. One of them tested positive for Rhinovirus. Of the patients, three have been discharged while two are being treated under isolation and are in a stable condition. The staff member has recovered and resumed duty.
Restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
