The Government today (July 14) announced that Professor Raymond So Wai-man has been re-appointed as Chairman of the Energy Advisory Committee (the Committee), while 23 community personalities have been appointed as members. The appointments are for a term of two years with effect from July 15, 2014 and will be published in the Gazette on July 18.
The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, thanked the Chairman and Members for their valuable contributions to the work of the Committee. "Under the able leadership of Professor So, the Committee has been rendering very useful advice to the Government on important energy-related matters, such as the mid-term review of the Scheme of Control Agreements (SCAs) the Government conducted with the power companies in 2013 and the review of the future fuel mix for electricity generation. The coming two years will be equally challenging as we will be undertaking the review of the development of the electricity market after the expiry of the SCAs in 2018. I look forward to working with the Committee closely," he said.
Mr Wong also expressed his special thanks to the three retiring Members, Ms Vivien Chan, Ms Cecilia Daisy Chen Sheau-ling and Mrs Lina Cheng Tang Ho-kuen, for their support and service in the past six years, and welcomed five new Members to the Committee, namely Ms Clara Chan Yuen-shan, Ms Vena Cheng Wei-yan, Ms Susanna Chiu Lai-kuen, Mr Jat Sew-tong and Mr Kalmond Ma Kai-chi.
The Committee advises the Government on energy policy, including policy matters concerning energy supply and demand, energy conservation and efficiency, and other related matters.
