Mainland traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) company Wellsoon (International) Medicine Co Ltd today (July 13) opened four retail outlets in Hong Kong in a bid to take its brand to the world as part of the company's global expansion strategy.
The pharmaceutical company set up a regional office in Hong Kong last year in preparation for the global launch. The clinics are located at prime sites in Admiralty, Taikoo Shing, Central and Happy Valley and, together with the central decoction facilities located at Kwun Tong, occupy a total floor area of over 12 500 sq ft. All clinics offer consultation services with licensed TCM practitioners.
The Chief Executive Officer of Wellsoon (International) Medicine Co Ltd, Mr Anthony Wong, said, "Our company has built a solid foundation in the Mainland TCM industry and at this juncture we are ready to go global and bring to the world our quality Chinese medicines. Hong Kong is a strategic platform from which we can easily reach out and promote our brand to global consumers."
Mr Wong said that the brand will also promote a more contemporary marketing image with chic interiors in retail outlets to appeal to younger customers. More retail outlets are being planned, depending on the business growth in Hong Kong.
Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Mr Charles Ng said that Hong Kong offers a mature TCM market for Mainland players to test their products. He said, "Hong Kong has the advantages of traditional Chinese medical and pharmaceutical development and is a place where Eastern and Western medicines converge. The city also has a global clientele from the large number of both international and Mainland visitors. In this context, I believe that Wellsoon will grow quickly in Hong Kong and successfully launch its brand to the global market."
