Police Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) officially rolled out a scam prevention platform 'Fight Scams Together' today (July 11). This new platform aims to disseminate scam prevention messages through the online channels and social media to raise public awareness.
"In the wake of the ubiquity of smartphones, 'Fight Scams Together' optimises the use of Hong Kong Police (HKP) Mobile App, Police Public Page (www.police.gov.hk) and HKP YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/user/HKPchannel), to timely disseminate the latest modus operandi and preventive messages on various types of scams, including email scam, employment related fraud, pyramid scheme related fraud and online scam, in the form of video clips and text," a Police spokesman said.
He added that CCB has been leveraging on the close partnership with various Police formations and strategic stakeholders to publicise this new platform. While technological advancement has literally made crime become borderless, CCB is liaising with a number of law enforcement agencies outside Hong Kong with a view to conveying those scam prevention messages to overseas audience through their channels.
To enrich the video contents of 'Fight Scams Together', CCB has produced a series of micro-movies. They include dramas and an interesting cooking show featuring various types of scams, graced by the participation of artiste, Ms Nancy Sit, Junior Police Call and Senior Police Call members, which drives home the message in a light-hearted way.
"Apart from enforcement actions, crime prevention is similarly important in fighting scams. We believe that this integrated platform will effectively enhance public awareness and alertness, and encourage members of the public to join the Police to 'Fight Scams Together'," the spokesman said.
