2014 Sport For All Day set for August 3 (with photos)
*****************************************************

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold the 2014 Sport For All Day on August 3 (Sunday) to promote the concept of "Sport for All". Various recreation and sports facilities will be open for free use by members of the public on that day, and a series of free recreation and sports programmes will also be held to encourage people to exercise regularly.

     As the FISAC-IRSF World Rope Skipping Championships 2014 final will be held in Hong Kong on August 3, Sport For All Day this year will have rope skipping as its main theme and "Stay active! Rope skipping keeps you fit!" as the slogan. Group skipping participation activities at designated venues in the 18 districts will be held simultaneously on the day for members of the public to share the fun and benefits of skipping as well as to support the Hong Kong Team in the world championships.

     Free recreation and sports programmes to be offered on the 2014 Sport For All Day will include:

* Rope skipping demonstrations and participation activities;
* Exercise talks and demonstrations (physical fitness tests, warm-up and cool-down stretching exercises, workouts and more, to be conducted and demonstrated by physiotherapists);
* Fitness corners (towel exercises, body and mind stretching for fun, hula hoop fitness exercises and more);
* Parent-child sports programmes (mini-sports games, social dance, badminton participation activities and more); and
* Sports participation activities (badminton, table tennis, fitness (multi-gym) and more).

     Enrolment for the free programmes will commence on July 14 (Monday) at 8.30am at the respective LCSD District Leisure Services Offices or designated venues in the 18 districts on a first-come, first-served basis. Each person can collect up to four participation cards. For contact details of the District Leisure Services Offices and sports centres, please visit the following webpage: www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/about_phone.php.

     Another major attraction of Sport For All Day is the opening of the LCSD's fee-charging leisure facilities for free use by members of the public on August 3. These facilities include:

* Indoor leisure facilities: badminton courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, netball courts, volleyball courts, squash courts, table tennis tables, billiard tables, sport climbing walls, bowling greens, golf facilities, fitness rooms, cycling track, activity rooms and dance rooms;
* Outdoor leisure facilities: tennis courts, tennis practice courts, bowling greens, batting cages, rope courses, sport climbing walls, archery ranges and golf facilities (excluding camping facilities, sports grounds, and artificial and natural turf pitches);
* Public swimming pools (excluding Wan Chai Swimming Pool); and
* Craft at water sports centres.

     Bookings for free use of the available land-based leisure facilities and craft at water sports centres on August 3 can be made at the Leisure Link booking counters at LCSD venues (except for self-service kiosks) on July 27 (Sunday) from 9am onwards. Each person can only book one free session on a first-come, first-served basis irrespective of the types of leisure facilities.

     No prior booking is required for the public swimming pool facilities. Members of the public may line up at the entrances of the swimming pools for free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

     The LCSD has also invited the 18 District Councils, National Sports Associations and community sport organisations, as well as privately run sports clubs and health centres, to organise free activities and offer free facilities for the public to enjoy on August 3 in support of the event. Organisations including District Sports Associations and National Sports Associations have responded positively to the LCSD's appeal.
