Contractors fined for violation of safety rules

Kiu Sheung Decoration Company Limited, Meng Chang Decoration Limited and Wah On Engineering Limited were fined $180,000, $135,000 and $40,000 respectively at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (July 4) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 11 last year in Wan Chai. A worker was suspected to have fallen through the void of a bamboo scaffold erected at the external wall of a building under renovation and subsequently died.
