18 Districts Cheering Team Competition showcases youth passion and energy (with photos)

     Over 600 primary and secondary students showed their skills in the 18 Districts Cheering Team Competition today (July 1) at Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

     The competition, under the theme of "Vitality. Love @ HKSAR", aimed to bring youngsters together and foster team building. It was district-based and divided into primary school and secondary school sessions. Besides competing for the gold, silver, bronze and merit awards, contestants also competed for the best slogan, best formation and best costume awards. Results are shown in the Annex.

     In addition, the cheering team of East China Normal University, Shanghai, and the Indonesian national team were invited to give demonstrations to boost the positive energy at the event.

     The guests officiating and presenting awards at the competition included the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui; the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan; the Convenor of the Youth Programme Co-ordinating Committee (YPCC), Mr David Yip; and the Deputy Director of Home Affairs, Mr Patrick Li.

     Organised by the YPCC under the COY and co-organised by the HAD and the District Youth Programme Committees of the 18 districts, the competition was not only one of the major territory-wide youth programmes of the year, but also a celebration event to mark the 17th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
