The main mirror of each telescope in the Very Large Telescope (VLT), which is located in the Atacama Desert in Chile, is 8.2 metres in diameter. The VLT is one of the largest optical telescopes in the world and can observe celestial bodies 4 billion times dimmer than those detectable by the human eye. Images from the VLT can be seen in the Hong Kong Space Museum's latest 3D Omnimax show, "Hidden Universe 3D", from tomorrow (July 1).
