Hong Kong Customs seized 0.45 kilogramme and 2.75 kilogrammes of suspected ketamine in two anti-narcotics operations conducted in Tuen Mun today (June 24) and yesterday (June 23) respectively. The total market value of the drugs was about $377,000. Two men and a woman were arrested.
Customs officers intercepted a man who got off from a medium goods vehicle in Wo Ping Sun Tsuen, Lam Tei yesterday evening. He was arrested after a small amount of suspected ketamine was found on him. Customs officers later searched the vehicle and a domestic unit in the village leading to the discovery of 0.45 kg of suspected ketamine with a market value of about $53,000 and a batch of packaging paraphernalia. The arrestee, aged 29, claimed to be a renovation worker.
In a separate operation, Customs officers intercepted a man and a woman near Sam Shing Estate in Tuen Mun this morning and found totally 2.75 kilogrammes of suspected ketamine with a market value of about $324,000 in a recycle bag of woman. The two arrestees, aged 19 and 28, who claimed to be a barman and a waitress, were arrested.
The three arrestees were charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (June 25).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
