Update on cluster of Clostridium Difficile toxin cases at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital gave the following update today (June 20) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Clostridium Difficile infection in a medical ward:

     One more 85-year-old female patient in the ward concerned presented with diarrhoea symptoms. Appropriate testing was arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Clostridium Difficile toxin. The patient concerned is being treated under isolation with stable condition.

     Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
