Correctional officers suffer from attack while stop person in custody attacking others
***********************************************************

Correctional officers stopped a remand person in custody from assaulting another person in custody in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (June 19) and the victim and five correctional officers were injured in the incident.

At 2.20pm, a male remand person in custody, aged 21, suddenly punched the face of another 36-year-old person in custody while proceeding to the shower room. An officer at scene tried to stop the remand person in custody but was attacked by him. Other officers immediately stopped the assault and separated the two persons in custody.

The assailant later became emotional when he was informed by the officers at an interview that the case would be reported to the Police. He tried to attack the officers at scene. In order to prevent him from hurting others, the officers subdued him with the use of OC foam after warnings in vain.

Altogether two persons in custody and five officers were slightly injured in the incident. All of them were conscious and were taken to the centre hospital for treatment. There was no need for transfer to public hospital. The case has been reported to the Police.

The assailant was remanded for an offence of robbery while the victim was sentenced for an offence of causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving.
