Lecture series on famous ballet choreographers and their masterpieces to begin in July

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present the "Lecture Series on Appreciating Ballet - Famous Choreographers and their Masterpieces" (conducted in Cantonese) from July to September. A selection of narrative and non-narrative ballets by 20th century and contemporary choreographers of international renown will be chosen to illustrate their various creative styles and choreographies. The audience will also be able to see videos of high standard full-company ballet troupes performing these masterpieces.

     Margaret Lau, who has been the speaker for the ballet lecture series since 2009, will perform the role again. She is a dance critic and feature writer for various magazines and newspapers in Hong Kong, and has worked as a researcher and writer for the ballet section of the publication "A Dance History of Hong Kong". During her career she has also been a dance instructor at the Ng Sheung Ha School of Ballet and Business Manager of the City Contemporary Dance Company. Her other engagements include writing related feature articles, conducting dance appreciation talks and translating house programmes for dance performances for the LCSD, the Hong Kong Arts Festival Society and the Macau Cultural Centre. She was also the translator of teaching materials and the prospectus for the programmes of the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certificate.

     All sessions will be held at 7.30pm at AC2, 4/F of Administration Building in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $50 (each session) are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10 per cent discount will be given for each purchase of standard tickets for five lectures or above. Please refer to programme leaflet for details.
