**********************************************************

Wo Hing Community Hall, the sixth community hall/centre in North District, was officially opened today (June 17), providing an additional venue for residents to organise and participate in community activities.

Situated at 7 Wo Ming Lane in Fanling, Wo Hing Community Hall is located in the soon-to-be-opened Fanling South Government Complex. It is in the vicinity of the Wo Hing Sports Centre and a bus terminus, where a variety of services and facilities are available for residents.

The community hall is equipped with a multi-purpose hall and stage with a seating capacity for 450 persons, a conference room and barrier-free access. Its design is people-oriented and infused with environmentally friendly concepts. The glass wall at the entrance and the skylights save energy by allowing the penetration of natural light, while the walls inside the hall are pleasantly covered by bamboo tiles.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new community hall, the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan, said that the total number of community halls now exceeds 100, marking a phenomenal milestone.

She added that there are rural areas in North District with a long history as well as rapidly developing new areas. To complement the development of the district, the Home Affairs Department endeavours to provide facilities for residents to gather together and participate in community activities.

Other guests attending the opening ceremony included the Chairman of North District Council (NDC), Mr So Sai-chi; the Vice Chairman of the NDC, Mr Hau Kam-lam, and the District Officer (North), Mr Yau Kin-chung. The Chinese Young Men's Christian Association Home of Love also performed a lion dance to bring joy to the ceremony.

Built by the Architectural Services Department, the community hall is managed by the Home Affairs Department and became available for bookings this month.

In addition to the newly opened Wo Hing Community Hall, the other five community halls/centres in the North District are Cheung Wah Community Hall, Ta Kwu Ling Community Hall, Sha Tau Kok Community Hall, Luen Wo Hui Community Hall and North District Community Centre.
