Hong Kong Customs smashed a cross-boundary drug trafficking attempt yesterday (June 13) and seized about four kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated market value of $2.1 million, at Lo Wu Control Point and Tai Po. A 41-year-old woman was arrested.
Customs officers intercepted a woman arriving from Shenzhen for personal search at Lo Wu Control Point last night. Two packets of suspected methamphetamine, weighing about two kilogrammes in total, were found in a bag carried by her. The woman was arrested at the scene. Upon follow-up investigation, officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau seized another two kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine in Tai Po.
The arrested woman, who claimed to be unemployed, will be charged with two counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Fanling Magistrates' Courts on Monday (June 16).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million upon conviction.
