New talents from Cantonese Opera Academy to showcase achievements

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present "2013/14 The Cantonese Opera Academy of Hong Kong - End of Term Performance" in July to showcase achievements of the Academy's rising stars in Cantonese opera.

     The programme will include five captivating Cantonese opera excerpts: "Waylaying the Horse", "Chastising the Princess" and "First Encounter" from "The Story of the Purple Hairpin", "The Chance Meeting When Plucking the Prunes" from "The Reincarnation", and "Under the Umbrella" from "The Moon Pavilion". The performance will feature current students of the Academy, including Leung Fei-tung, Premium Jiny So, Lui Chi-fung, Ng Sze-wing, Hui Sum-yuen, Yip Hei-ning, Kwong Shun-yan, Yuen Hok-wai, Lam Pui-ka and Ng Tsz-ching, as well as students from the musical accompaniment class.

     The Cantonese Opera Academy of Hong Kong Training Course aims to train up playwrights, instrument accompanists and percussion accompanists, and foster potential talents to be successors of Chinese opera artists in a four-year programme, which is taught in a progressive way by professional tutors and senior artists.

     The performance will be staged at 7.30pm on July 12 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of the Ko Shan Theatre. Tickets priced at $80 and $60 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
