Roving photo exhibitions of 14 Hong Kong UNESCO award-winning projects to be launched

     The Commissioner for Heritage's Office of the Development Bureau will hold roving photo exhibitions titled "TIMELESS archiCULTURE - UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation: 14 award-winning projects of Hong Kong" from June 13 to December 31 to introduce 14 Hong Kong conservation projects that have won UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

     "Since the establishment of the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2000, Hong Kong has received 14 awards, demonstrating that the conservation and restoration projects of Hong Kong, be they under private initiative or public-private partnership, have all reached international conservation standards. We hope to enhance public awareness of these award-winning projects by showcasing their achievements in heritage conservation," a spokesman for the Development Bureau said today (June 8).

     The award-winning projects include Savannah College of Art and Design (Hong Kong) (Former North Kowloon Magistracy) and Tai O Heritage Hotel (Old Tai O Police Station) under Batch I of the "Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme" of the Development Bureau.

     The photo exhibitions will display stunning pictures of the 14 historic buildings, along with information relating to their historical and architectural features. The public can also visit the buildings at selected opening hours and join free guided tours arranged by some of them on a first-come, first-served basis.

     A free pamphlet featuring the 14 award winning projects will be distributed at the 14 historic buildings and exhibition venues during the exhibition. The pamphlet is also available at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Sha Tin, Ping Shan Tang Clan Gallery cum Heritage Trail Visitors Centre in Yuen Long, Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Science Museum and Hong Kong Space Museum in Tsim Sha Tsui, Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware in Central, Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum in Mid-Levels, the Visitor Centres of the Hong Kong Tourism Board at the Peak and in Tsim Sha Tsui, as well as the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok.

     The roving photo exhibitions will be held at the following venues:

* North Atrium, G/F, Olympian City 2, West Kowloon (June 13-21)
* Hall A (North), Level 5 of the Meeters and Greeters Hall, Terminal 1, Hong Kong International Airport, Chek Lap Kok (July 1-September 30)
* Main Concourse, Podium Level 1, One International Finance Centre, Central (July 5-12)
* G/F, Central Terminal Building, Pier 8, Central (August 2-30)
* Covered Piazza, Times Square, Causeway Bay (September 2-7)
* Thematic Exhibition Gallery, Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui (September 12-30)
* Event Hall, UG/F, Citywalk, Tsuen Wan (October 13-16)
* Exhibition Gallery, 7/F, High Block, Hong Kong City Hall, Central (November 2-29)
* Lobby, 1/F, Immigration Tower, Wan Chai (December 9-31)

     The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation aim to recognise and encourage conservation and restoration projects under private initiative and public-private partnership within the Asia-Pacific region. Since the launch of the award in 2000, UNESCO has received 556 entries from 24 countries. A total of 168 projects have received such awards including the 14 winning projects from Hong Kong.
