Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on Legislative Council (LegCo) matters after attending a radio programme this morning (June 7):
Reporter: (impact of delay in LegCo Finance Committee)
Secretary for Labour and Welfare: I think it is very important that the Finance Committee and Establishment Subcommittee get on the businesses as quickly as possible because we got a very heavy agenda, with long waiting list of important livelihood issues. On my side of the house, for example, I got the Low-income Working Family Allowance. It is a very important policy tool on the part by the current administration to help the working poor. We really want to get it rolled out in the last quarter of next year. We need a long lead time and we are compressing the timetable, but I really appeal to the Legislative Council Members to speed up the process for the sake of grassroots families in Hong Kong.
