Cluster of Rhinovirus cases in Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital made the following announcement today (June 4):

     Six patients (aged 38 to 63) and a staff member of a male psychiatric ward and a male forensic ward had presented with respiratory symptoms since May 30. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients. All of them tested positive for Rhinovirus. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The staff member is currently on leave.

     Admission to the above wards has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
