The Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service (the Committee) of the Social Welfare Department has been promoting Level 3 Volunteering since 2011 under the theme "Volunteering – New Attitude to Life", in order to spearhead the development the Volunteer Movement (VM) and attract new volunteers. It also encourages a change of lifestyle through the integration of volunteerism's core values of altruism and mutual care into daily life.
To further permeate the idea into the community, the Committee is launching its first video contest, the "2014 Volunteer Movement Video Contest" this year, with an aim to encourage people to make use of creativity in video production to demonstrate the spirit of Level 3 Volunteering in promoting VM and to show concern for others. It is also hoped that participants will be able to capture the special and mutually beneficial moments between volunteers and their service targets through the videos.
The competition is divided into "School Category" (full-time Secondary school students in Hong Kong) and "Open Category" (age 16 or above Hong Kong resident). The video length should be between 30 seconds and two minutes in which text, image, acting or cross-media elements can be included. Judging criteria will be based on whether the content can promote the theme, creativity, impact on the public, artistic aspect and others.
There are many great prizes to be won in the contest. Winners will get certificates and electronic product gift coupons and all participating units will get a VM souvenir.
To influence more people to become volunteers and help care those in need, act now and join the 2014 Volunteer Movement Video Contest. The contest is now accepting applications online and the deadline for submission is September 22.
