Appointments to Airport Authority Hong Kong
*******************************************

The Government announced today (May 30) the appointments of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), which will be gazetted on June 6, 2014.

The Government announced in October last year the extension of appointment of Dr Marvin Cheung Kin-tung as the Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) for one year with effect from June 1, 2014. However, for personal reasons, Dr Cheung will retire as Chairman upon completion of his current term on May 31, 2014. Mr Jack So Chak-kwong will succeed Dr Cheung as Chairman of the AA for three years with effect from June 1, 2015. In the interim, incumbent AA Board member Mr Vincent Lo Hong-sui will be appointed as Chairman for one year with effect from June 1, 2014.

Mr Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung, Ir Lee Shing-see and Mr Edward Cheng Wai-sun will be re-appointed as Members of the AA Board for three years from June 1, 2014, to May 31, 2017, while Mr Benjamin Hung Pi-cheng will be appointed for one year as Member of the AA Board from June 1, 2014, to May 31, 2015.

The Government will also appoint four new Members, namely Mr Frankie Yick Chi-ming, Ir Lo Yiu-ching, Mr Franklin Lam Fan-keung and Mr Peter To, all on a three-year term from June 1, 2014.

Dr Cheung has served the AA as a Member since June 2003. He was first appointed as the Chairman in 2008, and was re-appointed for three years in 2011. The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, expressed his heartfelt thanks to Dr Cheung for his great commitment and dedication to the AA in the past six years as Chairman. Dr Cheung has, in particular, played an important role in planning for the three-runway system. With the incessant efforts of Dr Cheung and other AA Board Members, the Hong Kong International Airport set new annual records last year when its passenger volume and cargo tonnage exceeded 59.9 million and 4 million respectively.

Professor Cheung extended a warm welcome to Mr So, who will take up appointment as Chairman of the AA with effect from June 1, 2015. He looks forward to working closely with him in taking forward the long-term development of the Hong Kong International Airport, including the three-runway system and North Commercial District projects. Mr So will resign from the Board of Cathay Pacific Airways Limited prior to taking up AA Chairmanship. Professor Cheung also thanked Mr Lo for accepting the appointment as Chairman for one year with effect from June 1, 2014.

Professor Cheung is very grateful to the four retiring Members, namely Ir Dr Raymond Ho Chung-tai, Ms Miriam Lau Kin-yee, Mr Albert Wong Kwai-huen and Ms Caroline Mak Sui-king, for their invaluable contribution to the work of the AA during their tenure.
