Appointments to Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation
*******************************************************

The Government today (May 30) announced that the Chief Executive has appointed Mrs Fanny Law as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) for two years starting from July 1, 2014.

"Throughout the years, the HKSTPC has been the breeding ground for numerous technology companies," the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, said. "We are confident that under Mrs Law's leadership, the corporation will continue to help Hong Kong in this important role of innovation and technology development."

The Government also announced the appointment of four new members and the re-appointment of five incumbent members by the Financial Secretary.

Dr Sunny Chai, Mr Owen Chan, Mr Theodore Ma and Professor Tsui Lap-chee have been appointed as new board members of the HKSTPC for a period of two years from July 1, 2014.

Mr David Fong, Dr Lo Wai-kwok, Professor Shyy Wei, Mr Richard Sun and Mr Billy Wong have been re-appointed as board members for a period of two years with effect from the same date.

Mr So said, "I am glad that the corporation has a board of directors with such a breadth of expertise to steer the effective fulfilment of its public mission. We are confident that the Board of Directors, with their impressive experience and knowledge, will help the corporation enhance Hong Kong's position as a regional centre for innovation and technology."

The term of the incumbent Chairman, Mr Nicholas Brooke, and three incumbent members, Professor John Chai, Dr Eliza Chan and Mr Tony Choi, will expire on June 30 this year.

"Prior to his appointment as Chairman in 2007, Mr Brooke had served as a member of the board for six years. During the past 13 years, Mr Brooke saw the HKSTPC build solid foundations for its development. Under his leadership, the implementation of Hong Kong Science Park Phase 3 development is progressing on schedule. We are deeply grateful for his tremendous contribution to the development of Hong Kong's innovation and technology. In the past six years, Professor Chai, Dr Chan and Mr Choi provided valuable contributions to steering the corporation in pursuing its public mission. The achievements of the corporation are due in no small part to their guidance and wise counsel," Mr So said.

The HKSTPC, which began operation on May 7, 2001, manages the Hong Kong Science Park, three industrial estates and the InnoCentre, and supports innovation and technology development in Hong Kong. It provides a comprehensive range of services to cater for the needs of industry at various stages, including nurturing technology start-ups through the incubation programme, providing premises and services in the Science Park for applied research and development activities, and providing developed land in the industrial estates for production.
