Special stamp issue - "Hong Kong Museums Collection - Paintings by Mr. WU Guanzhong" (with photos)

     Hongkong Post today (May 30) announced that a set of special stamps entitled "Hong Kong Museums Collection - Paintings by Mr. WU Guanzhong" will be released for sale with associated philatelic products on June 17 (Tuesday).

     This is the third set of "Hong Kong Museums Collection" special stamps and features seven masterpieces from the collection that artist Wu Guanzhong donated to the Hong Kong Museum of Art. The seven works are "Victoria Harbour" (2002), "Memories of Home" (1991), "Waterway" (1997), "Faces Unchanged" (2001), "Two Swallows" (1981), "The Farthest Corner of the World" (2009) and "At Rest" (2010).

     Wu Guanzhong (1919-2010) was a leading artist in 20th century Chinese art history. A world-renowned master of his craft, Wu devoted his life to exploring the heart and soul of Chinese and Western paintings. His oil painting and ink wash works are famous for bringing together the essence of Chinese and Western painting art.

     Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.20 each at all post offices from June 3. The stamps and associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from June 3 to 9.
