The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
It has come to the attention of the Chairman of the Legislative Council "Select Committee to Inquire into Matters Relating to Mr Timothy Tong's Duty Visits, Entertainment, and Bestowing and Receipt of Gifts during his Tenure as Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption" (the Select Committee) that two local newspapers published today (May 23) reports concerning the work of the Select Committee. Those reports appeared to have disclosed the contents of the Select Committee's draft report. The Chairman of the Select Committee expresses serious dismay about the matter.
The draft report provided to Select Committee members is confidential. The disclosure of its contents will prejudice the impartiality of the work of the Select Committee and bring unfairness to the witnesses concerned.
