The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, visited Tsuen Wan today (May 22) to better understand the provision of elderly and youth services in the district.
Accompanied by the Chairman of the Tsuen Wan District Council, Mr Chan Iu-seng, and the District Officer (Tsuen Wan), Miss Jenny Yip, Mr Yuen first visited the Yuen Yuen Care and Attention Home for the Aged at Lo Wai Road, Sam Dip Tam. Apart from touring its facilities and visiting the elderly residents, he also received a briefing on the care and attention home's expansion plan.
Established in 1994, the Yuen Yuen Care and Attention Home for the Aged provides accommodation and meal services for elderly people aged 65 or above who lack self-care ability in daily living activities due to poor health or functional disabilities. In response to the Government's Special Scheme on Privately Owned Sites for Welfare Uses, it plans to construct an additional floor at its existing four-storey building and redevelop the adjacent Yuen Yuen Home for the Aged, which has operated for nearly 40 years, to relieve the shortage of care and attention places.
Mr Yuen then went to the Sane Centre of the Hong Kong Children & Youth Services in Tai Ho Road, where he met and chatted with the centre's voluntary workers and youth members.
The centre provides education, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services for habitual or occasional psychotropic substance abusers, and young people at risk of abusing drugs in the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing districts. It also renders training services and support to local community members concerned about drug abuse and related professionals.
Before concluding his visit, Mr Yuen met with members of the Tsuen Wan District Council and exchanged views with them on a range of community issues.
