Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

      Police officers issued a total of 627 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 64 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (May 19).
 
     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 276 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
 
     A total of 451 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 176 for other traffic offences.
 
     15 pedestrians and 147 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
 
     Statistics revealed that a total of 974 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to April this year, of which 287 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 48.4 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
