Case of Legionnaires' disease under CHP investigation

     The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is today (May 19) investigating a case of Legionnaires' disease (LD) affecting a 56-year-old man.

     The patient, with underlying illness, has presented with fever, cough and shortness of breath since May 13. He was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital on May 18. His clinical diagnosis was pneumonia and he is currently in stable condition.

     His urine sample tested positive for Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 antigen upon laboratory testing by the Public Health Laboratory Services Branch of the CHP.

     The CHP's investigations are proceeding.

     This is the 11th LD case reported to the CHP this year. In 2013 and 2012, 28 cases were filed in each year.
