The Legislative Council (LegCo) Subcommittee on Integrated Education conducted a visit to Kowloon Bay St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School this morning (May 19) to better understand the implementation of the Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment in Deaf Education Programme.
Members first received a briefing on the implementation of the "Jockey Club Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment in Deaf Education Programme" at the School, then observed a "Sign Language Recess", a sign bilingual class and other school activities. Members also exchanged views with parents, teachers and students on learning through sign bilingualism.
Members participating in the visit included the Chairman of the Subcommittee, Dr Fernando Cheung; the Deputy Chairman, Mr Ip Kin-yuen; Subcommittee member Mr Cheung Kwok-che; and non-Subcommittee member Mr Gary Fan.
The Subcommittee will hold a meeting on May 28 (Wednesday) at 8.30am in Conference Room 2A of the LegCo Complex to discuss issues related to the promotion of sign bilingualism in mainstream schools.
