Registration and Electoral Office follows up complaint on electors' registered addresses
**********************************************************

A spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (May 12) that the REO is following up a complaint on registered addresses of electors of the Eastern District Council Nam Fung Constituency, which alleges that some electors' registered addresses are not clear, and some involve an address with over a certain number of registered electors or more than a certain number of surnames. The complaint was received by the Returning Officer this afternoon and referred to the Electoral Affairs Commission for handling according to the established procedure.

"The REO is approaching the electors whose registered addresses are suspected to be unclear to ascertain the accuracy of the addresses. As some of the addresses are situated at older buildings, the way they are expressed may be different and incomplete. The REO would follow up to verify these addresses and, if required, assist the electors to update their registered addresses."

"On cases involving an address with over a certain number of registered electors or more than a certain number of surnames, according to the result of an initial examination, the REO has conducted checks in its previous regular checking measures on some of the electors, and the electors concerned have replied to confirm their addresses. That said, the REO would issue a letter to the electors mentioned in the complaint as soon as possible to request them to confirm whether they still live at the address and remind them that they violate the relevant electoral laws if they deliberately provide false information in relation to voter registration," the spokesman said.

The spokesman emphasised that the REO has been making every effort to ensure that information on the registers of electors is accurate. Suspected false registered addresses will be referred to the law enforcement agencies for follow-up action and investigation.
