Special traffic arrangements on Hong Kong Island for public processions

     Police will implement special traffic arrangements on May 1 (Thursday) to facilitate three public processions to be held on Hong Kong Island.

I.

     The following traffic arrangements will be implemented from 10.15am until the crowd has dispersed.

A. Road closure

- Westbound Hennessy Road between Luard Road and Johnston Road;
- Rodney Street;
- Eastbound Queensway will be intermittently closed;
- Westbound Harcourt Road between Harcourt Garden car park exit and Tamar Street;
- First and second right lane of westbound Harcourt Road between Tamar Street and Cotton Tree Drive;
- Eastbound Harcourt Road between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue;
- Southbound Tim Wa Avenue (except for vehicles heading for Chief Executive¡¦s Office and Central Government Offices car park); and
- Southbound Edinburgh Place between Lung Wo Road and Connaught Road Central.

B. Traffic diversion

- Traffic along westbound Hennessy Road must turn right to northbound Luard Road;
- Traffic along southbound Fenwick Street cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along westbound Harcourt Road outside Harcourt Garden car park exit will be diverted to Harcourt Road leading to westbound Harcourt Road flyover;
- Traffic along eastbound Harcourt Road must turn right to southbound Cotton Tree Drive;
- Traffic along northbound Cotton Tree Drive will be diverted to northbound Tim Wa Avenue;
- Traffic along Lung Wo Road cannot turn to Tim Wa Avenue (except for vehicles heading for Chief Executive¡¦s Office and Central Government Offices car park); and
- Traffic along Lung Wo Road cannot turn to southbound Edinburgh Place.

C. Suspension of car parks

     All car parks along westbound Hennessy Road between Luard Road and Johnston Road, and along Rodney Street will be closed.

II.

     A procession will depart Chater Garden at 11.30am for western pavement of Legislative Council Road via eastbound Queensway, northbound Tamar Street and westbound Harcourt Road, then turn to eastbound Harcourt Road through a u-turn slip road, and continue through Harcourt Road northern pavement (eastward) and Tim Mei Avenue western pavement.

     Police will intermittently close some traffic lanes along the procession route when necessary.

III.

     The following traffic arrangements will be implemented from 1.45pm until the crowd has dispersed.

A. Road closure

- U-turn slip road between southbound Gloucester Road and northbound Gloucester Road;
- Southbound Gloucester Road between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road will be intermittently closed;
- Sugar Street;
- Jardine's Bazaar;
- Tang Lung Street; and
- Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.

B. Traffic diversion

- Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road cannot turn right to northbound Gloucester Road;
- Traffic along southbound Victoria Park Road flyover must turn right to westbound Gloucester Road service road if necessary;
- Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road heading for Causeway Road will be diverted to southbound Tai Hang Road flyover if necessary;
- Traffic along eastbound Great George Street must turn left to northbound Gloucester Road (except for vehicles heading for Tai Hang Road flyover);
- Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street cannot turn left to Sugar Street;
- Traffic along westbound Irving Street must turn right to northbound Pennington Street;
- Traffic along westbound Russell Street must turn left to southbound Canal Road East; and
- Traffic along westbound Hennessy Road cannot turn left to southbound Canal Road East.

     The following traffic arrangements will be implemented from 2.15pm until the crowd has dispersed.

A. Road closure

- Westbound Yee Wo Street;
- Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
- Kai Chiu Road;
- Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
- Westbound Hennessy Road;
- Canal Road West between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
- Wan Chai Road between Canal Road West and Morrison Hill Road;
- Bowrington Road between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
- A slip road leading from eastbound Johnston Road to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Eastbound Queensway will be intermittently closed;
- Rodney Street;
- Westbound Harcourt Road between Harcourt Garden car park exit and Tamar Street;
- First and second right lane of westbound Harcourt Road between Tamar Street and Cotton Tree Drive;
- Eastbound Harcourt Road between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue;
- Southbound Tim Wa Avenue (except for vehicles heading for Chief Executive¡¦s Office and Central Government Offices car park);
- Garden Road flyover fast lane will be intermittently closed; and
- Southbound Edinburgh Place between Lung Wo Road and Connaught Road Central.

B. Traffic diversion

- Traffic along northbound Pennington Street must turn right to eastbound Yee Wo Street;
- Traffic along Yun Ping Road must turn left to Pak Sha Road or Lan Fong Road;
- Traffic along northbound Canal Road West near the junction with Sharp Street West will be diverted to the up-ramp leading to northbound Canal Road flyover;
- Traffic along eastbound Sharp Street West will be diverted to the up-ramp leading to northbound Canal Road flyover;
- Traffic along eastbound Sharp Street West cannot turn left to northbound Bowrington Road;
- Traffic along northbound Bowrington Road must turn right to eastbound Sharp Street West;
- Traffic along eastbound Wan Chai Road must turn right to southbound Morrison Hill Road;
- Traffic along southbound Stewart Road cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along southbound Fleming Road cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along northbound Fleming Road cannot turn left to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along southbound Fenwick Street cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along westbound Harcourt Road outside Harcourt Garden car park exit will be diverted to Harcourt Road leading to westbound Harcourt Road flyover;
- Traffic along eastbound Harcourt Road must turn right to southbound Cotton Tree Drive;
- Traffic along Garden Road flyover must turn left to northbound Cotton Tree Drive;
- Traffic along northbound Cotton Tree Drive will be diverted to northbound Tim Wa Avenue;
- Traffic along Lung Wo Road cannot turn to Tim Wa Avenue (except for vehicles heading for Chief Executive¡¦s Office and Central Government Offices car park); and
- Traffic along Lung Wo Road cannot turn to southbound Edinburgh Place.

     All car parks in the affected areas may be closed at short notice if necessary. Vehicles may not be permitted to leave or enter the car parks along the procession route during the road closure period until the road are re-opened to traffic.

     Any vehicles found illegally parked within the precinct of the special traffic arrangements specified above will be towed away without prior notice.

     Actual implementation of the traffic arrangements will be made depending on traffic and crowd conditions in the area. Motorists are advised to exercise tolerance and patience and take heed of instructions of the Police on site.
