The Hong Kong Observatory and the Television Division of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) have partnered for the fourth time to produce TV documentaries introducing the ever-changing weather phenomena. The first episode of the new series, "Meteorology Series IV", will be broadcast on April 26. The first three series of "Meteorology Series", broadcast in 1999, 2001 and 2005, were well received.
"Meteorology Series IV", to be presented in four episodes with climate change arising from modern civilisation as the background, looks into the underlying causes of the changes in intensity and frequency of extreme weather phenomena such as rainstorms, drought and typhoons brought about by climate change, and the associated impact on mankind. Through first-hand filming of extreme weather conditions in places extending from our neighbouring countries, such as the Philippines and Vietnam, to distant places like Lesotho in southern Africa and Greenland within the Arctic Circle, and finally focusing on our hometown Hong Kong, the series provides expert meteorological analysis and invites the public to reflect on the relationship between the development of human civilisation and its impact on Mother Nature.
From April 26 to May 17, "Meteorology Series IV" will be simultaneously broadcast every Saturday from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on TVB Jade and RTHK TV31. Live broadcast and an archive of the TV programmes will be available on the RTHK website (tv.rthk.hk) and in the "RTHK Screen" app.
