The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (HKZBG) will hold a "Meet-the-Zookeepers" activity again during the Easter holidays. The event will offer members of the public a chance to understand more about the gardens' animals.
During the activity, the gardens' zookeepers will share with visitors their experience in daily primate care and animal conservation. Visitors will also have an opportunity to learn more about the gardens' animals, including Bornean orang-utans, buff-cheeked gibbons, emperor tamarins, golden-headed lion tamarins and pygmy marmosets, as well as black and white ruffed lemurs.
This time, visitors can also make friends with two newcomers: red-handed tamarins. These two primates came from Germany to join the HKZBG's big family in February this year and have become new neighbours to some 70 mammals, more than 280 birds and 30 reptiles in the gardens.
Red-handed tamarins are excellent climbers. With their small size and agility, together with their black body hair with eye-catching reddish-orange limbs, these two red-handed tamarins will certainly win the hearts of visitors, just as other animals in the gardens do.
When it was held in December last year for the first time, the HKZBG's "Meet-the-Zookeepers" activity was well received by members of the public, with more than 200 visitors enjoying the event.
The "Meet-the-Zookeepers" activity will be held at 10am and 2pm on April 18 and 19. Admission is free. Interested parties can assemble at the information counter of the HKZBG's Education and Exhibition Centre at the above times. For enquiries, please call 2530 0154 during office hours.
