FEHD orders food factory in Tuen Mun to suspend business for seven days
************************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a food factory in Tuen Mun to suspend business for seven days, as the operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by illegally extending the food business area.

The food premises, located at shop No. 6 on the ground floor of Fung Yu House at Sam Shing Estate at No. 6 Sam Shing Street, was ordered to suspend business from today (April 16) to April 22.

"Last February and May, two convictions for the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"A total fine of $8,000 was levied by the court and 30 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension. The licensee lodged an appeal to the Licensing Appeals Board, which decided to suspend the licence for seven days instead," he added.

The licensee of the food premises had a record of two convictions for the same offence in September and December 2012. A total fine of $5,400 was levied and 30 demerit points were registered. The breaches led to business suspension for four days last July.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises have been licensed at a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is also available on FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
