Exhibition and Special Stamp Issue on "A Journey through HK's Postal History - A Glimpse of HK's Postal History through the Old GPO Building (1911 - 1976)"
*********************************************************

Hongkong Post and the Antiquities and Monuments Office announced today (April 14) that they are jointly organising an exhibition entitled "A Journey through Hong Kong's Postal History - A Glimpse of Hong Kong's Postal History through the Old General Post Office Building (1911 - 1976)" at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in Kowloon Park, Tsim Sha Tsui. Following the opening ceremony on April 29, the exhibition will run from April 30 to August 26 for public viewing.

Showcasing the old General Post Office  (GPO) building that once stood at the junction of Des Voeux Road and Pedder Street, the exhibition presents the development of the local postal service from 1911 to 1976 when the building was in use. The daily postal operations carried out in the building will be illustrated with a diversity of archived materials, including photos, vintage posting boxes, postal equipment used and stamps issued during the period, as well as recollections of post office staff who used to work there. The exhibition will also illustrate the distinctive architecture of the old GPO building, with a collection of models including one built with Lego blocks. Though demolished in 1976, the old GPO building will be recreated at the exhibition through a giant 3-D wall photo.

To mark the opening of the exhibition, Hongkong Post will issue a stamp sheetlet and associated philatelic products on April 29. The stamp sheetlet integrates photos of different aspects of postal operations at the old GPO building with an architectural drawing of the building. It also features a round-top stamp, a first-time stamp design in Hong Kong, echoing the unique arches of this magnificent historic building.

Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.20 each at all post offices from April 15. The stamp sheetlet and associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from April 15 to 22.

Information about the exhibition and the related philatelic products is available on Hongkong Post's website at www.hongkongpost.hk and via the Hongkong Post mobile app.
