Cluster of scabies cases in Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok, made the following announcement today (April 11):

     Five male patients (aged 51 to 82) and one staff member of an infirmary ward have presented with symptoms of skin infection since February 28. Two of the patients have been confirmed as having scabies after laboratory examination conducted during the period. All patients and staff concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

     Infection control measures have already been stepped up in accordance with the established guidelines. All other patients and staff members in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
