Awards recognise remarkable achievements in ICT (with photos)

     The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2014 Awards Presentation Ceremony tonight (April 7) celebrated the remarkable achievements of the local information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

     MiQ Ltd/Oursky Ltd received the Award of the Year, the highest accolade, from the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, presented the Grand Awards to the winners of 10 award categories.

     The evening also marked the opening of International IT Fest 2014. The IT Fest, bringing together 38 ICT events in the coming fortnight to showcase Hong Kong's ICT development and achievements, aims at reinforcing Hong Kong's position as an ICT hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

     The Hong Kong ICT Awards was established in 2006 with the collaborative efforts of the industry, academia and the Government. The aim is to build a locally recognised and internationally acclaimed brand of ICT awards in Hong Kong. Over the years, the Awards has effectively served as a springboard for "Made in Hong Kong" ICT innovations to make inroads into the international arena.

     The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2014 comprises 10 categories. Two new award categories, Best ICT Startup Award and Best Student Invention Award, have been set up to promote entrepreneurship and startup culture, and arouse students' interest and encourage creativity in ICT innovation. This year saw a record-breaking number of over 1,100 entries. There is one Grand Award in each category and the best of the best - the Award of the Year - is selected from the 10 Grand Award winners. The winners of the 10 categories are as follows:

1. Best Business Solution Grand Award:

2. Best Digital Entertainment Grand Award:
vfxNova digital productions Ltd/The Hong Kong Jockey Club (Recreating Master Xu Beihong's Ink Painting Horses into 3D Ink Animation - Chinese New Year TV Commercial for the Hong Kong Jockey Club)

3. Best Digital Inclusion Grand Award:
Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service Hong Kong, Enlighten Centre ("No More Drugs" - a smartphone application as a supplementary tool for drug rehabilitation)

4. Best Green ICT Grand Award:
DCH Logistics Co Ltd (Internet of Things (IoT) Food Quality Management Service Platform)

5. Best ICT Startup Grand Award:
Phonejoy Solutions Ltd

6. Best Innovation Grand Award:
Insight Robotics Ltd (Insight Computer Vision Wildfire Detection System)

7. Best Lifestyle Grand Award:
Viss Me Co Ltd (a social media and e-commerce platform - "Viss")

8. Best Mobile Apps Grand Award:
MiQ Ltd/Oursky Ltd (Jamn - The musician's multi-tool)

9. Best SME ICT Grand Award:
TFI Digital Media Ltd (Home Enjoyment, Recreation and Multimedia Entertainment System (Hermes) 1.1 - Live Video Streaming Platform)

10. Best Student Invention Grand Award:
Cheung Sum-yin/Lai Siu-wai/Tse Wing-shun of Shun Tak Fraternal Association Yung Yau College (Portable Air-quality and Weather Measuring System)
