Update on cluster of Multiple-drug Resistant Acinetobacter cases in Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) gave the following update today (April 7) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Multiple-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) carriers in a ventilator ward:

     The hospital has stepped up the screening procedures and one more 81-year-old male patient has been confirmed as a carrier of MDRA today but without clinical symptoms. He is under medical surveillance and isolation in stable condition.

     QEH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
