Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession on Hong Kong Island this Sunday
******************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) today (March 28) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on Hong Kong Island from about 1.15pm this Sunday (March 30) to facilitate the holding of a public procession.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------

     The following roads will be closed from about 1.15pm:

1. Jardine's Bazaar;
2. Tang Lung Street;
3. The section of Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street;
4. The section of Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
5. The section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
6. Kai Chiu Road;
7. The section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
8. The section of Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road;
9. The section of Canal Road West between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
10. The section of Wan Chai Road between Canal Road West and Morrison Hill Road;
11. The section of Bowrington Road between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
12. Hennessy Road westbound west of Lee Garden Road and Queensway westbound will be intermittently closed; and
13. The slip road leading from Johnston Road eastbound onto Hennessy Road westbound.

Public transport services
-------------------------

     A total of 30 bus routes and four green minibus routes operating at the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. The public transport operators concerned will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

     Due to extensive road closure, the TD anticipates that the traffic from Causeway Bay to Central would be very congested on that day. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on TV and radio.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are available at the department's website (www.td.gov.hk). Please call 1823 for any enquiries.
