SEN visits Macau (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, leading a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government delegation, this morning (March 27) attended the 2014 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition in Macau to explore the green business opportunities brought about by modern environmental technologies as well as green solutions for a sustainable city.

     In the morning, Mr Wong officiated at the opening ceremony of the event and toured the exhibition booths.

     He called on the Secretary for Transport and Public Works of the Macau Special Administrative Region, Mr Lau Si-lo, and other government officials to share experience in implementing various policies. He then attended a networking luncheon hosted by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute.

     In the afternoon, Mr Wong met the Director of the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector, Macau Special Administrative Region, Mr Arnaldo Santos, to exchange views on energy-related matters. He also had a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Environment of Portugal, Mr Paulo Lemos, and his delegation to learn more about the Portuguese government's environmental protection policies, including waste management issues.

     Mr Wong then saw for himself the waste automatic collection system located in Areia Preta to learn about the operation of local waste management facilities. Comprising waste collection points, underground pipelines and garbage inlets, the system is designed to collect 35 to 40 tonnes of garbage daily and serve about 15,800 households.

     After joining a green dinner hosted by the Macau Special Administrative Region Government, Mr Wong and the delegation will conclude the visit and return to Hong Kong in the evening.
