Government welcomes extension of first registration tax exemption for electric vehicles by three years

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, said he was pleased to see the Legislative Council pass the resolution today (March 26) to extend the first registration tax exemption for electric vehicles for another three years, to March 31, 2017.

     "Continuing the first registration tax exemption for electric vehicles will help promote the wider use of electric vehicles and improve our roadside air quality," Mr Wong said.

     The first registration tax exemption for electric vehicles was first introduced in 1994-95 and the Legislative Council has extended the exemption since then.
